How do I Add a Custom Port Forwarding Service on NETGEAR Router?

You can allow certain types of incoming traffic to reach your home network server if you have one. You might want to make a local web server, FTP server, or game server visible and accessible to the Internet, for example.

Incoming traffic with certain protocols can be forwarded to computers on your local network via the router. For example, you can define application servers and a default DMZ server to which the router will send all other incoming protocols.

To Add a Custom Port Forwarding Service on the NETGEAR Router-

Step 1: Determine the application’s port number or range of numbers. Typically, you can obtain this information by contacting the application’s publisher, user groups, or newsgroups.

Step 2: Using a computer or mobile device connected to your router’s network, open a web browser.

Step 3: In the address box of your browser, type http://www.routerlogin.net. The login window appears.

Step 4: Enter the username and password for the router. Admin is the user’s name. Password is the default password. The case of the username and password is important. The BASIC Home screen appears on the screen.

Step 5: Choose ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Port Forwarding/Port Triggering from the drop-down menu.

Step 6: As the service type, make sure the Port Forwarding radio button is chosen.

Step 7: Select Add Custom Service from the drop-down menu.

Step 8: Enter a descriptive name in the Service Name area.

Step 9: Select a protocol in the Service Type area. If you’re not sure, go with TCP/UDP.

Step 10: Enter the initial port number in the External Starting Port area.

Step 11: Enter the same port number in the Ending Port section if the program uses a single port. If the program uses a range of ports, fill in the External Ending Port box with the range’s last port number.

Step 12: One of the following ways can be used to specify internal ports:

  • Leave the check option for Use the same port range for internal ports selected.
  • In the Internal Starting Port and Internal Ending Port sections, type the port numbers.

Step 13: In the Internal IP address field, type the IP address or pick the radio button for an associated device from the table.

Step 14: Then press the Apply button.

Step 15: On the Port Forwarding/Port Triggering page, the service is now listed.
