How to Configure a Netgear Router?

You typically won't need to perform many settings to Configure a Netgear Router to your cable or DSL provider and get online if you purchased it from your ISP. The setup wizard or other features make it simple to link to your modem even if you've reset your wireless router and bought a brand-new Netgear router we'll explain how!

Using a Genie Interface, Use Cable Internet

  • Turn off your Netgear router config and modem.

        

  • Connect your modem to your Netgear router's "Internet" port using an ethernet cable.

          

  • Connect the computer to any "LAN" port on your Netgear router using a second ethernet wire.
  • Turn on your modem and watch for a steady state of all the lights.
  • Wait for the "Power" light to remain solidly green after turning on your Netgear router.

  • Link your modem to your Netgear router's "Internet" port using an ethernet cable.  
  • Connect your computer to any "LAN" port on your Netgear router using a second ethernet wire. 

  • Please turn off your Netgear router, modem, and computer and then turn them back on.    
  • Launch any Internet browser on your computer after waiting a few minutes for every device to turn on completely again.
  • Your browser's address bar should display one of the next URLs: http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1. Type the desired URL and hit the "Enter" key. The router login dialogue box will appear when the proper URL is entered.   

        

  • Enter "admin" as the username and "password" as the password to access the router interface. The default login information for Netgear routers is this Your Netgear router will be accessible to you.
  • Choose "Yes" whenever requested if you want Netgear to identify your Connection to the internet after clicking on "Setup Wizard" in the left sidebar.    
  • Once your Internet browser has been identified, click "Next" once more. It will set up your Netgear router to work with your ISP and save your settings.     

Genie Interface for DSL Internet

  • Your router and phone are connected to the phone jack by a tiny box called the DSL microfilter

  • Use a short telephone wire to connect your phone to the DSL microfilter.   
  • Connect your computer to any "LAN" port on your Netgear router using an Ethernet cable.
  • The Netgear router should be powered on after being connected to its power supply unit. It will take the router about a minute to boot up fully.    
  • On your computer, open any web browser. The Netgear Genie setup wizard will appear on the screen automatically. 

       

Smart Wizard DSL Internet Interface    

  • Your router and phone are connected to the phone jack by a tiny box called the DSL microfilter.    
  • Use a short telephone wire to connect your phone to the DSL microfilter.    
  • Connect your computer to any "LAN" port on your Netgear router using an Ethernet cable.
  • The Netgear router should be powered on after being connected to its power supply unit. It will take the router about a minute to boot up fully.
  • Open a web browser on your computer and enter either http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar. You can access the router login screen by visiting these URLs.    
  • Enter "admin" for the username and "password" for the password in the fields, respectively. Your Netgear router's default login information is as follows.    

Configure a Netgear Router For Troubleshooting.

  • If the Netgear router configuration doesn't work, download the most recent firmware for your Netgear router from http://support.netgear.com. Sometimes out-of-date firmware could make it impossible for you to connect to the internet. 
  • If, after setting your router, you still have trouble accessing the Network. Resetting your router will return it to its factory default settings, which can assist in fixing software issues with your router.
