Since you’re forwarding a port from the Internet via the firewall and guiding it to a device on your home network, this process is known as port forwarding.
Don’t worry if this appears to be a complicated process; we’ll walk you through each move to get your ports forwarded.
It’s essential to give the device to which you’re forwarding a port a static IP address. This ensures that even though your machine is rebooted, your ports remain available.
After you’ve set up a static IP address on your devices, you’ll need to log into your router.
The Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router can now be signed into. Since your router has a web interface, you must access its settings via a web browser.
It makes no difference which browser you use; choose your preference, such as Chrome, Edge, Internet Explorer, or Firefox.
Locate the address bar after opening your preferred web browser. All you have to do now is replace this with the IP address of your router.
Since entering the router’s IP address in the address bar, press the Enter key on your device.
It’s now time to locate your router’s port forwarding portion. At the top of the page, choose the Advanced link.
Now take a look at the left-hand sidebar—Select Advanced Setup from the drop-down menu. A new menu appears as a result of this action. Select Port Forwarding/Port Triggering from the drop-down menu.
Put a check next to the nighthawk r7000 port forwarding radio button at the top of the list. Then, near the bottom of the page, press the Add Custom Service button.
In the Service Name box, give this entry a name. The name has no impact on the forward; it’s just there to help you remember why you set it up in the first place. In the Service Form box, choose the protocol type of the ports you’re forwarding.
If you’re only forwarding one port, fill in both the External Starting Port and External Ending Port boxes with that number. Enter the lowest number of that range into the External Starting Port box and the highest number of that range into the External Ending Port box if you’re forwarding a range of ports divided by a hyphen.
Check the box that says, “Use the same port set for internal ports.” In the Internal IP Address box, type the computer’s IP address to which you want to forward ports. This could be the Ip of your device or the IP address of another user on your network.
When you’re done, click the Apply button. When you’re done, make sure to save your changes by clicking the green Apply button.
