How to Enable Port Forwarding on Netgear Nighthawk Router?

Step 1: Set up an IP address on your computer or device on which you wish to forward a port.

Step 2: Log into your Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router.

Step 3: Move to the port forwarding section.

The default Netgear Nighthawk IP address is 172.16.0.1. In case you changed the IP address of your router, then you need to enter that IP address. After you are done entering the IP address in the URL section, then click on the search icon.

After that, a dialog box will appear before you where you will be required to enter the username and password of your router. The default username of your Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router is admin and the default password of your Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router is password.

Enter the username and passwords in their respective fields and then click on Ok. Now, you will be able to log into your Netgear Nighthawk router.

Step 3: Now to enable port forwarding on the Netgear Nighthawk router, start searching for the port forwarding section of your router. For this, you will have to open the Netgear Genie page.

Select the Advanced tab that is given right after the Basic tab. Now, take a look at the sidebar on the left. Select the option of Advanced Setup. This will open up the new menu. Now, select the option of Port Triggering or Port Forwarding.

Now, move ahead and put a dot in the button of the radio labeled as port forwarding, close to the top of the page. After that, click on the button of Add Custom Service given at the end of the page.

Step 4: Now, go to the Service Name box and then name the entry. It does not make any difference but this will help you keep in mind why you did port forwarding in the first place. Choose the type of protocol of the ports that you are forwarding from the Service Type box.

In case you are only forwarding one port, then enter that port number in External Ending Port as well as the External Starting Port box. In case the port forwarding is of the range of ports with the help of a hyphen, then enter the smallest number within that range in the box of External Starting Port. Enter the highest number of the range in the box of External Ending Port.

Please ensure that Use the same port range for the internal port box is checked. Now in the box of internal IP address, enter the IP address of the device that you wish to forward the ports to. This IP address can be of your PC or some other device on the same network. Select the apply button once you are done entering the IP address.

Once Netgear Enable Port Forwarding is done, click on the green apply button to save the changes made.
