How To Stop Dos Attacks On Netgear Router?

Knowing how to stop dos attacks on Netgear Router rapidly could mean the difference between your router succeeding and collapsing. Denial of Service (DoS) attacks occur in the router's logs, rendering router traffic unavailable to users by interfering with regular traffic with extraneous data or repeatedly scanning the router's ports.

The DoS attack causes the router's traffic to slow down. To prevent Dos attacks on your Netgear router, take the steps listed below.

Identify the DoS attack on Netgear Router:

  • A DoS attack manifests itself as a slow router network.
  • The attack could be responsible for the rise in spam emails and text messages.
  • A DoS attack may be the cause of your inability to access or browse a specific website.

Stopping The DoS Attack Can Be Done In Several Ways.

1. Enable the Port Scan & DoS Protection

To prevent a DoS attack, Netgear routers offer a built-in security mechanism.

To use the router's DoS protection, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Open the web browser on your PC after connecting it to the router network.

Step 2: Visit the Netgear router login page by entering the router login URL.

Step 3: To access the router's setup page, enter the username and password; by default, the username and password are admin and password, respectively.

Step 4: To go to the configuration page, click OK.

Step 5: Go to the Advanced panel when the router setup shows in the browser window.

Step 6: Check the Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection option on the right panel of the WAN Setup menu on the left navigation panel.

Step 7: Click the checkbox to enable the Port Scan and DoS Protection if it is checked.

Step 8: To save your changes, click the Apply button.

2. Use a Reliable ISP

Select a stable and trustworthy internet service because an unreliable internet network can produce connection timeout issues and a fake DoS attack.

3. Firewall Settings should be Enabled.

Step 1: Enable the firewall settings in the Advanced section of the router configuration page.

Step 2: Under Outbound Firewall, go to Security > Firewall Rules and add the rules. Save the changes.
