Why Is Netgear Router Not Connecting To The Cable Modem?

Step 1: Locate the internet port of your Netgear router because you have to connect your modem to this port. Once you finish this, you have to connect your modem to any of the four LAN ports.

Step 2: Then switch the computer, Netgear router & cable modem on and off. Wait for some time so that all devices can boot up.

Step 3: Open the web browser and then type “192.168.0.1” in the address bar. If any error occurs after entering this IP address then enter “192.168.1.1” in the address bar.

Step 4: Now you are prompted to log into the Netgear router. At the Netgear login wizard, you have to enter the default login credentials. Just note down one thing i.e., the username and password are case-sensitive.

If the Netgear router’s default login credentials are not working then it might be possible that you have changed them earlier. Otherwise, you have to restore your router to factory defaults settings.

Restore Netgear Router To Factory Defaults 

You have to locate the Restore Factory Settings button that is usually located on the back of the router. They take a sharp object like the paperclip and insert it into the Reset button for 7 seconds.

Then release the Reset button and wait for some time so that the Netgear router reboots. Once your router is finished with the factory reset then the Power light will stop blinking and then turn solid green.

By doing this, default settings will get restored on your Netgear router not working.

Step 5: Then tap on option “Setup Wizard”. Now Setup wizard screen will display on your system’s screen. On the setup wizard screen, press a click on Yes radio box.

Then hit Next button. Now, the setup wizard will detect your internet connection type. If you are using a cable internet connection, the Setup Wizard will detect “Dynamic IP”. Hit Next.

Step 6: Now “Dynamic IP address” will detect on your computer’s screen. Again hit Next button.

Step 7: To check if your Netgear router is connected to the internet, navigate to Maintenance and then choose Router Status. Check the IP address field, if the IP address is not like 0.0.0.0 then you should understand Netgear router is connected to the internet.
